about

After receiving a wealth of blog-acclaim from his 2011 release Surf Suburban EP (declared “sound of the summer” and included in the Best EPs of 2011 by mega-music blog The Burning Ear, amongst others) Toronto surf-pop artist Art Imperial returns with an 8-track offering, CULT OF LOVE. For this project, Art Imperial channels sounds of the 50’s & 60’s (specifically classic rock n’ roll, doo-wop, Phil Spector girl groups and hints of Motown) to assemble the consummate break-up album.

Written, performed and recorded by Art Imperial (with the exception of ‘She’, a cover of The Monkees classic), CULT OF LOVE endeavours to do what all great break-up albums do: forge empathetic bonds with the listener that expose the universal feeling of heartbreak; to show, in answer to Al Green’s famous question, that above all else music remains the best cure to mend a broken heart.
