Bio:
Art Imperial has never surfed in real life. The waves he chases are those crashing on the shores of his dreams. There is no stretch of sand in the suburbs to lay, no body of water to immerse the soul, no glittering reflections of an orange sunset over a crystal blue blanket. The Surf Suburban EP is a dream: a sonorous expression of the sea’s seduction. It overflows with the raw energies of the sun, the sand the surf; the forces that cleanse and renew. The purpose: to incite and affirm the undying pulse of life that ecstatically attacks the senses, transporting us to worlds not normally felt and experienced. Art Imperial has never surfed in real life, but everyday he chases those waves.

From the US/CAN:
ART IMPERIAL is MY ep of the summer and it should be CRYSTAL clear why...It’s as if Best Coast and Wavves stopped toking long enough to actually get on a surfboard and then rode that board into the 60s. But instead of a surfboard it was a guitar.
– The Burning Ear
Surf Suburban EP... is a phenomenal showcase of an artist with natural pop smarts and a wonderful knack for guitar-based melodies
– Obscure Sound
What Imperial does best is manage conviction with finesse, crooning with a certain cut of attitude ...Imperial produces an enjoyable mix of surf pop and rock that, much like the beach, can be both refreshing and cathartic. It's a sound that can wash away the gray and pick you up off the floor.
– Mixtape Muse
Frenetic guitars, shimmering vocals and all the reverb and distortion you could ever want. This is one fantastic lo fi “surf-pop” collection with songs that will consistently be stuck in your head, you will certainly enjoy this, I most definitely did.
– Music Savage
If you are planning on heading to the beach anytime in the near future, you may want to add Toronto surf-rock inspired musician Art Imperial's new EP Surf Suburban to your collection to set the mood.
– Off The Radar
a one-man surf rock afficianado who jangles and jaunts and twists his away across the surf rock landscape like a pro
– Fuzzy Logic
...six summery songs that are sprinkled with the finest surf-pop magic dust.
– Never Say Wolf
If you like the summery wall of sound that's gotten so popular over the last two years, then you will just love Surf Suburban...perfect for sitting on the dock with a beer.
– Snob’s Music
[T]he non-stop pulse of standout The Inbetweener is the perfect accompaniment to yet-to-be-enjoyed high energy summer nights.
– This Music Doesn’t Suck
Suburban Surf is chock full of hazy little summer jams with a bit of sway to them. It’s almost like bedroom pop, if your bedroom just happened to be a little hut in some remote beach area.
– Austin Town Hall
International Acclaim:
Surf Suburban is six songs of pure pop heaven, heavy on chords that will grab you instantly and drenched in deep echoes of reverb.
– Indie30 (Australia)
there is a genuine thematic zeal underpinning these six tracks (plus a surprisingly crystalline production) that helps to elevate them above mere mimicry. Dreamy euphoric pop whimsy maybe? Im not sure, but Surf Suburban is doing it for me.
– Sonic Masala (Australia)
Surf Suburban EP...is full of quick witted, unashamed jangly surf-pop that you cant help but become fond of...The EP hits all the right spots and that is all you, the listener, should give two fucks about.
– One For The People (UK)
Exciting, vibrant pop music from Toronto's Art Imperial, with equally brilliant (and brilliantly blatant) nods to Best Coast and surfy influences. This will be on Pitchfork in a few weeks if it isn't already.
– Basement Fever (UK)
Sprawling, and slightly rarefied, this is undemanding summer rock by AI (above), cooked doggone perfectly.
– Some of it was True (London)
– OHMYROCK (Brazil)
Reminiscent of The Beach Boys, The Surfaris or The Shadows, Art Imperial's music provides the perfect soundtrack for the coming days of summer. If you ever found yourself wondering what to listen during your summer vacation or what to pick for your beach party, Art Imperial is the answer.
– Against All Odds (Bulgaria)
